A deep dive into:

Chrysanthemums

Autumn

We all look forward to this moment every year.

Chrysanthemums are some of the most hardworking, high-impact flowers we grow. What most people do not realize is that they spend all year in the ground, requiring constant pinching, staking, disbudding, and protection from pests. They demand attention from spring through fall, but they reward that dedication with unmatched fall beauty and exceptional vase life.

Because we grow many different varieties, you will notice that some are offered as sprays and some as disbuds. Here is what that means and how they function in design:

What is a Spray?

Spray mums have multiple smaller blooms on a single stem. They bring texture, fullness, and variety to arrangements without overpowering. They are incredibly versatile and help create lush volume quickly.

Why you’ll love them:

  • More stems = more blooms per bunch

  • Great filler-meets-focal flexibility

  • Adds instant fullness and variety in arrangements

What is a Disbud?

Disbudded mums are trained to produce one large focal bloom. By removing the side buds early in the season, the plant channels all its energy into that single flower. The result is an impressive, sculptural bloom that brings a strong focal point and visual presence to a design.

Why you’ll love them:

  • A bold, focal moment in your designs

  • Gorgeous shapes and dramatically larger petals and forms

  • Amazing vase life and presence
